Dr. Toni Stewart was elected to the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners as a District 2 representative in 2020. Her current term expires in 2024. She served as Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Commissioners in 2022. Dr. Stewart is a member of the Cape Fear Valley Hospital System Board of Trustees and Social Services Board. She was appointed to serve on the Fayetteville-Cumberland Liaison Committee, the Finance/Audit Committee and American Rescue Plan (ARP) Committee. Dr. Stewart was appointed as liaison to the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Homeless Committee and as Chairwoman of the Grays Creek Countywide Water Committee in 2022.
Dr. Stewart is an Ohio native who chose Cumberland County as her home over a decade ago. Dr. Stewart currently serves as the Special Project Manager at True Vine Ministries where she also serves as an Ordained Elder.
Dr. Stewart formerly served as the Executive Director of the Hope Center women’s shelter, as well as a member of the City of Fayetteville Personnel Review Board. She serves on the board of directors for Greater Fayetteville United after having formerly served as the board’s Vice Chairwoman. Dr. Stewart serves on Cumberland Residential and Employment Services and Training (CREST) and formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Fayetteville Area Operation Inasmuch. She is also a member of the Pathways for Prosperity Coalition.
Dr. Stewart holds a degree in Legal Studies and is a graduate of Wilberforce University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management. Dr. Stewart earned her master’s degree in Divinity from Family Bible College of Fayetteville and her doctorate in Biblical Counseling from Andersonville Theological Seminary.
Dr. Stewart serves as a Certified Life Coach with concentrations in the areas of Executive and Organizational Coaching, Relationship Coaching, Leadership Coaching, Spiritual Formation and Women’s Coaching. Dr. Stewart holds credentials through the American Association of Christian Counselors.
Dr. Stewart has four children and three granddaughters.
