COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Update

Sep 21, 2021

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will continue to follow CDC recommendations for people who have moderately to severely compromised immune systems receiving a third dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Moderna and Pfizer).

The Cumberland County Department of Public Health is aware of, and closely monitored, the scheduled Food and Drug Administration meeting about approving Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for Emergency Use Authorization today.

If a booster is approved by the FDA in the future, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices would still need to approve prior to distribution by the Cumberland County Health Department. At this time, the Cumberland County Health Department will not speculate on when such approval would be made.

“For the booster shots, you do not need to go to the same provider that gave you your first dose,” said Public Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green. “We continue to offer an updated list of vaccination providers in the area on our website.”
