Media Advisory
Gun Locks and Bridge Dedication Service

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office would like to invite the media to the following events next week:

  1. Tuesday, September 12th at 11 a.m. there will be a press conference featuring gun-locks, given free to the Sheriff's Office from a national program called "Project Homesafe". Sheriff Butler and Gregory Foster of the Remington Arms Company will demonstrate and outline the gun-lock program. Media Kits from the program are available. The press conference will be held on the first floor, near the Special Services (Gun Permits) Division.
  2. Thursday, September 14th at 10 a.m. will be a Special Bridge Dedication Service honoring Sheriff's Office Corporal Hathcock and NC State Highway Patrol Trooper Ed Lowry, who were killed in the line of duty on September 23, 1997. The bridge selected by the NC DOT is Exit 41 (I-95) in Hope Mills (their hometowns). The keynote speaker will be David McKoy, Secretary of the NC Department of Transportation. Remarks will be made by NC Crime Control Secretary David Kelly on behalf of Trooper Lowry and Sheriff Earl "Moose" Butler in regard to Deputy Hathcock. The ceremony will be held in a field behind the BP Station on Highway 59 (future Food Lion grocery store site). The ceremony will start at 10 a.m. with comments from NC DOT Board Member Lyndo Tippett and conclude with the unveiling of the signs.

Please, have your representative(s) in place no later than 9:45 a.m. as we expect to have a large crowd.
