Interning or volunteering with Cumberland County Department of Public Health offers individuals the opportunity to
- Get a realistic glimpse in the daily work of public health professionals in local health departments
- Apply classroom knowledge and skills in a real world public health settings
- Gain new skills, knowledge and work experience in the field of public health
- Meet and network with public health professionals
The internship is for the benefit of the student and is not to be used in place of employees. Therefore, the intern will not receive compensation for time spent in the internship. While this program is intended for educational purposes the same procedures will be followed for volunteers.

When the following information has been submitted we will review to see if we have a placement for you. After a placement has been designated, you will need to complete a background check authorization and information release & confidentiality forms. The Background check will be $27, which you must pay in cash. These will be forwarded to HR once completed and received and then you will have to have clearance prior to you being able to volunteer/intern with us.

Once placed, if you are interested in an internship through your school, you will also need to have your school contact, communicate with our contracts liaison, Tracy Gurganus, in order to facilitate a contract for us to serve as a site of your internship.
