Two Cumberland County
teenagers who graduated from Gray’s Creek High School in May and were active in
4-H and the Cumberland County Fair have been awarded scholarships from the
North Carolina Association of Agricultural Fairs.
Ashlyn Johnson received the 2019 Academic Scholarship worth $2,400
and will attend Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn. She is the
daughter of Billy and Lisha Johnson.
John Faatz received the 2019 Financial Scholarship worth $2,400
and will attend N.C. State University. He is the son of John and Jennifer
Faatz.
Johnson and Faatz have been
active in 4-H and the Cumberland County Fair for several years. They were
presented the scholarships at the Cumberland County Fair Advisory Board meeting
held in the I.B. Julian Auditorium at Cooperative Extension Aug. 7. Former
Cumberland County Fair Manager Hubert Bullard was president of the N.C.
Association of Agricultural Fairs when the scholarships were established in
1990.
“These deserving scholarship
recipients are a testament to the Cumberland County Fair and agricultural
leadership of Cumberland County Cooperative Extension,” Bullard said.
