Cumberland County Commissioner Charles Evans has been elected as the president of the North Carolina Association of Black County Officials. He was sworn in during the organization’s virtual meeting on Aug. 15.
“I am grateful and honored to be representing the citizens of Cumberland County on a state board, and I appreciate the vote of confidence by my peers on the North Carolina Association of Black County Officials board,” said Evans, who has also served as the second and first vice president for the organization.
Evans was elected to the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners as an at-large representative in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018. His current term expires in 2022. He was elected as the board’s vice chair in 2017 and served two terms on the Fayetteville City Council from 2005-2009. He was also appointed to serve on the National Association of Counties Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee.
