FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Beginning June 2, the Cumberland County Department of Social Services is offering free box fans for eligible citizens through the Fan Giveaway Program. The program provides relief to eligible citizens who do not have access to air conditioning during the hot summer months.
Citizens who fall below 200% of the current poverty level and who have a family member in the home under the age of 2, over the age of 60, or with a heat sensitive medical condition, are eligible for the Fan Giveaway Program.
Citizens interested in a free box fan are asked to come to DSS to speak with a social worker and complete an assessment. Eligible citizens who completed their assessment in person will receive a fan the same day. Social Services is located at 1225 Ramsey St., Fayetteville. Citizens who cannot come in person for their assessment should call 910-677-2388 or 910-677-2389 to speak with a social worker.
