FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners did not implement a temporary pause in approvals of zero lot line subdivisions in the county during their regular meeting Monday morning.
The Board held a legislative hearing regarding a proposed 90-day moratorium on zero lot line subdivisions and sending the issue of whether or not to eliminate zero lot line subdivisions from the County’s Subdivision and Zoning Ordinances to the Joint Planning Board for a recommendation. Following the hearing, the Board was split 3-to-3 on a motion to enact a 90-day moratorium for zero lot line subdivisions, meaning the motion failed and a moratorium will not go into effect. Commissioner Charles Evans was not present.
The Board also voted to accept an offer to purchase surplus property consisting of 12.44 acres of vacant land located adjacent to the Cape Fear River in Fayetteville.
Cumberland County Public Library Director Faith Phillips provided the Board with an update on the Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Oceans of Possibilities,” which is taking place from June 1 through August 15. She noted that there will be library programs for readers of all ages, along with story times, book clubs, prize drawings, and more. The Board recognized former Cumberland County employee Cindy Tucker, who retired as Executive Assistant in the County Manager’s Office in March.
