FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library, Inc., will host Brendan Slocumb, author of The Violin Conspiracy, at Headquarters Library, 300 Maiden Lane, on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. Slocumb is a former Fayetteville resident.

Slocumb’s debut novel, The Violin Conspiracy, was the Good Morning America Book Club pick for February 2022. Penguin Random House named it one of “The Must-Read Books of 2022.”

The Violin Conspiracy follows Ray McMillian, a Black classical musician from rural North Carolina, as he pursues his dream of becoming a professional violinist. Facing a lack of support, a startling heist and systemic racism within the world of classical music, the odds are stacked against him. Yet, through it all, Ray’s enduring love for music is his anchor and a source of his resilience.

“We are so excited and honored to host Mr. Slocumb at Cumberland County Public Library. The Violin Conspiracy is an absolutely riveting read, and I encourage everyone in the community to join us for this exciting program,” said Cumberland County Public Library Director Faith Phillips.

Following the book discussion, Slocumb will sign copies of the book, which will be available for purchase.
