The Corn Growers Association will conduct a referendum for the assessment of corn sold to first purchasers in North Carolina on March 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cumberland County Cooperative Extension.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Corn Growers Association of North Carolina will conduct a referendum for the assessment of corn sold to first purchasers in North Carolina on March 14. Voting will take place at the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension office, located at 301 E. Mountain Dr., Fayetteville, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The current assessment is 1.25 cents per bushel. The Corn Growers Association is proposing to change the assessment to .30% of settlement. This will bring the association’s assessment in line with other row crop assessments across North Carolina.
Increased funds obtained as a result of the assessment will be applied to an endowed chair position at N.C. State University for the Extension Cropping Specialist corn position. Additionally, any increase in revenue will cover the increased cost of research which benefits all North Carolina corn producers.
The votes will be collected and tabulated by N.C. State University and the results will be published by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The Corn Growers Association of North Carolina is governed by an all-volunteer board of farmers and industry representatives and is committed to promoting production agriculture, funding research that benefits corn growers across the state, and represents all the state’s farmers nationally and internationally.
