FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Beginning June 3, the Cumberland County Department of Social Services is providing free box fans for eligible citizens through the Fan Giveaway Program. The program provides relief to eligible citizens who do not have access to air conditioning during the hot summer months.

Social Services is distributing free box fans to eligible households. Citizens eligible for the Fan Giveaway Program are those who fall below 200% of the current poverty level and who have a family member in the home under the age of 2, over the age of 60, or with a heat sensitive medical condition. Citizens interested in a free fan are asked to come to DSS to speak with a social worker and complete an assessment. Eligible citizens who completed their assessment in person will receive a fan the same day. Citizens who cannot come in person for their assessment should call 910-677-2388 or 910-677-2389 to speak with social worker.

Social Services is also collecting donated fans for the Fan Giveaway Program. Fans must be new and still inside the box. Used fans will not be accepted. Those interested in donating a new box fan may visit DSS or call 910-677-2388.

Social Services is located at 1225 Ramsey Street. For more information, go to cumberlandcountync.gov/social-services or call 910-323-1540.
