Immunizations

New COVID-19 Vaccines Approved

The FDA has approved and granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for updated COVID-19 vaccines for the 2024-2025. We expect the updated COVID-19 and flu vaccines to be available at the health department in September or October, based on availability from the manufacturers. The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone ages 6 months and older get the 2024–2025 COVID-19 vaccine. This includes people who have received a COVID-19 vaccine before and people who have had COVID-19.

With this announcement, the Fall 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccines are no longer authorized. These vaccines will no longer be available at the health department.

The Immunization Clinic is staffed by registered nurses and administrative support. The clinic is a walk-in clinic and serves the general public by administering both required and recommended vaccinations to children and adults. It is a regional immunizations clinic, as many of the vaccines needed by overseas travelers are offered.

Appointments are required for travel assessments and travel vaccines; all other immunization clinic services are walk-in.

PPD skin tests require two visits to the clinic; the first visit is to place* the skin test, a second visit 2-3 days later to read your skin results.

In order to serve you better, please bring the following documentation with you:

    • Photo I.D.
    • Shot records
    • Insurance cards
    • Custody/Legal guardianship documentation
    • Signed letter of consent from parent/legal guardian of a minor (Only needed if anyone other than a parent/legal guardian brings a minor in for immunizations.) The letter needs to include the parent's name, child's name, and the date. The person bringing in the child must provide a photo I.D.

    Required Vaccines for School

Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to walk-in for required immunizations prior to the start of each school year.

Wait times for immunizations increase as the deadline for back-to-school immunizations approaches.

In North Carolina proof of required immunizations are required within 30 days of the first date of attendance of school. After 30 days, children are to be excluded from school until the family provides documentation of requirements.
