Health Department Receives 75 Bike Helmets from DOT Grant

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will distribute 75 bicycle helmets along with bicycle and car seat safety educational materials this summer to promote youth safety. The helmets and safety materials were provided through a grant from the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Bicycle Helmet Initiative and will be distributed at upcoming outreach events.

 

The helmets and car seat safety educational materials will be available throughout the summer at the Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Summer Camps and Program. See the summer camps and program schedule at https://www.fcpr.us/programs-activities/summer-camps.

 

The helmets and car seat safety educational materials will also be available at the Fun in the Sun Community Health Event on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Public Health Center, located at 1235 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, and at the Fayetteville Fire Department Fall Safety Day on Sept. 30.

 

The bicycle safety program at the health department will also collaborate with the Baby Store program to provide helmets for low-income families with a child in need.

 

The Health Department will partner with Safe Kids Cumberland County, Fayetteville Fire Department, Cumberland County Public Schools, Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation and other community partners to distribute the helmets and materials.
