FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Department of Public Health will administer Pfizer booster shots for approved groups not earlier than six months after a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people who have moderately to severely compromised immune systems receive a third dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Moderna and Pfizer).
The Cumberland County Department of Public Health is aware of the Food and Drug Administration’s Advisory Committee meetings on Oct. 14 and 15 which discussed approval of the Moderna and Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 booster vaccines.
The Cumberland County Department of Public Health is required to wait for the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the CDC Director’s recommendation on a booster dose prior to administration. The ACIP is scheduled to review the evidence and make recommendations for a Moderna and Johnson and Johnson booster vaccine on October 20-21.
“We want all eligible citizens to get fully vaccinated before the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Dr. Jennifer Green, Cumberland County Public Health Director. “We will offer Pfizer boosters at all of our vaccination locations. Please bring an unvaccinated friend or family member when you come for your booster!”
Testing Information
If you need tested before the Thanksgiving holiday, the Health Department can provide free at-home COVID-19 rapid antigen testing kits. Pick up a kit at the Health Department, Monday-Friday with no appointment required. Limit of two kits per person. For more information visit our website.
Cumberland County Updates
As of October 18th, the Cumberland County Public Health Department reports 452 Cumberland County residents have died of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. There have been 44,333 cases in Cumberland County reported since the onset of the pandemic and according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services website, the percent positive rate is 7.6%.
Vaccine Clinic Information
All individuals (age 12 and up) may schedule appointments on the County’s COVID-19 vaccine page at cumberlandcountync.gov/covid19/vaccination. An online application form allows individuals to choose their own appointment date and time for the first, second, or third dose, if eligible, of the vaccine. Second doses are automatically scheduled after the first dose is received. Upcoming clinic dates are as follows:
