DSS Walking for Elder Abuse Awareness Through June 15

The Department of Social Services Adult Services division is participating in the National Center on Elder Abuse’s 4th Annual Virtual Walk for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Cumberland County Department of Social Services Adult Services division is participating in the National Center on Elder Abuse’s 4th Annual Virtual Walk for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Adult Services Section staff members are raising awareness of elder abuse by walking or running between May 1 and June 15, 2024. The dates coincide with Older Americans Month, which is observed in May, and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is observed June 15.

Adult Services section will also commemorate World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 14 with a pinwheel planting ceremony. The events serve as reminders that elder justice is a collective responsibility. Adult Protective Services works to ensure the personal safety and wellbeing of elderly citizens in Cumberland County by investigating suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation of people ages 18 and older.
